Clear Channel Airports (CCA), the world's leading marketer of airport advertising, has teamed with Geodelic, a Santa Monica based tech start-up, to create FLYsmart, a free location-based mobile app. FLYsmart allows air travelers to quickly locate services and amenities in terminals, as well as browse live feeds of arrival and departure information.

This week brings the unveiling of a partnership between Clear Channel Airports -- which specializes in place-based advertising targeting air travelers -- and Geodelic, which incorporates location service technology into mobile apps, to produce FLYsmart, a free location-based app for air travelers.

I’ve seen it grow from a meager launch of 500 applications in the App Store to currently over 225,000. In only two years, the industry has matured at hyperspeed. It spawned an entire ecosystem to support it from a multitude of news and editorial resources to developer engines, promotional services and ancillary niches. With over five billion app downloads and a billion dollars at stake, it’s no surprise that the app economy expanded so quickly.
